So the schedule that you each have in front of you (or http://wiki.claritalb.org/) is the most updated. We may add on a short talk about IRB’s and the importance of them in the research field this week. I’ll let you know when this information becomes available.

Let’s take some time to go through the agenda.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The lectures are for you, and all the speakers know that you’re intelligent undergraduates who are motivated to learn---So be confident!

Program Requirements:

We have provided you with notebooks. You are required to takes notes during each of the presentations and during the field trips. The notebooks are to serve a few purposes:
- To encourage that you learn how to take clear notes and so that they may help you reflect upon each day. This will be especially important for your final presentations.
- The program will collect your notebooks from you on July 2. If you wish to have copies made, we can help you do that.
Due on Tuesday, June 23 is a 1-2 page (double-spaced) document about what you would like to accomplish during the next 10 years, how you might use environmental justice to address concerns in your community or your life.
On Friday, June 26th, each of you will informally interview one anther before we leave Neah Bay. Questions that we ask you to ponder will pertain to what you have learned in the program thus far. We ‘ll provide you with guidance and a few starter questions; however, you’ll be given a wide range of freedom to express your thoughts.
On July 2nd you’ll turn in another reflection piece about the topics/issues that you learned about and how your 9-day experience changed the way you think about environmental (justice) issues, community, your social responsibility, research, information, and communication. There is no page limit.
15 minute presentations on July 2nd. You’re welcome to be creative in how you compose your presentations. On June 29-Jul 1, Jessica and I will be available to help you with your presentations to help get the resources that you need. We’ll work with you as much as you need, but also give you the space you need to be creative and analytical. Soon, I’ll update the schedule with times and rooms where we can meet to talk about your presentations during from June 29-Jul 1.
We also would like to keep in touch with you over the next few years. Next year we’ll ask you if you’d like to participate in the program again, and over time we’d like to offer our mentorship to you. As you navigate through the rest of your undergraduate careers and begin graduate school, we will be available to help in whatever way we can.
